Method – 1 : Editing Hosts File

This is one of the most commonly employed trick to fix the error “IDM has been registered with a fake serial number” where you simply need to edit Windows host file.

Note - Please Close IDM Completely such that no process is using IDM you can terminate IDM Application from Task Manager.

Steps to Follow :

Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts
Right click on the host file and select open with notepad.

Note – If you are not able to open hosts file with notepad then Right Click on the hosts file and select properties -> Click security button -> Click on Users and Edit  -> Again Select Users -> Check mark the box “Full control” and now you can open the hosts file with open notepad.

Paste the following code at the end of notepad file
127.0.0.1 www.internetdownloadmanager.com

Click on File -> Save
After this again open Properties of hosts file -> Check the mark read only

That’s all and you are all done.
Method – 2 : Easiest Working trick

It has been found that in most of the cases editing the hosts file doesn’t fix the problem from root and may appear again therefore in such case you can follow the below procedure to get 100% results.

Steps to Follow :

Open your IDM installation directory
Here look for “IDMGrHlp.exe” file

Note – To be able to view your file extensions you first need to enable the option by going through Organize -> Folder and Search Options -> Uncheck the option Hide extensions for known file types

Rename the file “IDMGrHlp.exe” to any name of your choice or you can simply delete it.(I would suggest you to delete it)
Note – If you delete the file then there would be a new pop up each time you open IDM stating “IDM cannot find 1 files that are necessary for browser and system integration. Please reinstall IDM“.

Now Search for the file “idmBroker.exe”

Make a duplicate copy of this file and Rename the duplicate file to “IDMGrHlp.exe”
That’s all and you are all done.
Restart your system and start downloading your files with IDM.
